24/01/11 The Presidents Village

Today several of the volunteers travelled to Port Launey to bring 10 children from the local orphanage on a day out to the beach to snorkel. The kids ranged from 5 – 14 and varying degrees of English competency. The children were all extremely shy to begin with but after our introductions & an informative lesson on turtles we got the kids kitted up in their snorkels & masks and delved deep into 3 feet of water to enlighten their lives forever with a taste of the wonders of the deep blue sea.

We continued the fun with some extremely active games on shore, which clearly brought out the competitive side in some of our volunteers, not naming any names, Fiona… After some SANDwiches and sand turtle sculpting, it was time to pack up and say our goodbyes. We left completely exhausted, but it was all worth it judging by the smiles left on all parties faces.
