09/03/11 Intense Inverts & Laid Back La Digue

Wow, what can I say? This week has been a hectic fun filled week! With surveys being packed in wherever we can get them so that we can get the most out of our experience.

We have all been working hard studying invertebrates so that we can survey them; it’s truly amazing how many urchins hide away in the not so murky depths of Curieuse waters. It’s pretty awesome studying the sea floor scouring for sea cucumbers, sea stars, urchins and shells. It allows you to truly appreciate the beauty and complexity of this underwater paradise.

After a hard week diving, we escaped away for a relaxing weekend on the nearby island of La Digue. We arrived on Saturday to find a very chilled out place where bikes where the main mode of transport. We couldn’t be left out so hired bikes to explore this beautiful island, which proved to be less of a challenge than I thought, considering some of us had not ridden a bike for a while! We ended the day with a drink at sunset which was a perfect end to a laid back day. However, we were all eager to get back to Curieuse and to get back to work.
