08/11/11 Settling In At Cap Ternay

So much has happened in the past couple of days that it is hard to know where to start! There have been many highlights such as swimming with turtles, diving amongst coral, lots of fish, and making loads of new friends all with an innate love for the water. But it all started when we were picked up from our various accommodation scatted throughout Mahe Island. As we came down the small windy road to what would be our home for the next 5 weeks, we were given glimpses between the thick green undergrowth with its rotting leaf matter of the crystal clear ocean which was more brightly blue than the pictures you see in a nature magazine… The Seychelles was all that we expected it to be and more.

We were quickly orientated with GVI’s base and the fruit walk was definitely memorable given that it didn’t stop raining the entire time. By the end our collection bags had more water than fruit in them. Apart from that, we have had beautiful sunny days with not a cloud in the sky.

The scuba diving has been amazing and for a couple of us, having just completed our open water license, the advanced course has helped develop our skills in the water a lot. Oh I almost forgot to mention that yesterday I SAW A MANTA RAY!!! We were doing a coral spot and then just in front of us a Manta ray glides gracefully past. It was swimming just over our heads and was almost 3 meters long. I am really excited for the weeks to come given that I have been here for only a few days and so much has happened. Just a day in the life at the Seychelles.
