18/04/13 Shark Week

This last week we covered a lot of shark awareness topics, which was kind of fitting as the weekend before a group of us did a shark dive in the south of the island. It was an awesome experience, we swam with around seven grey reef sharks for almost an hour.
During shark week GVI arranged for a guy from Seychelles Fishing Authority to come in and talk to us about the efforts in place in the Seychelles to conserve sharks around the island.
It was really cool to learn about the drastic effects of shark decimation on coral reefs and why they play such a crucial role in the ecosystems of marine life.

New volunteers arrived this last weekend, and this week has been getting to know them, show them the ropes of camp life and things like that.
personally, I have started my fish methodology and am beginning the ocean surveys this week which I am super excited for.
Diving two times a day in this amazing place, couldn't ask for more.
