Week Three
And so week three begins in earnest… It’s hard to believe we’ve been
here for a full fortnight as some of the four-weekers have very little time
left before they leave and are replaced by other eager volunteers. The camp is
beginning to settle down and tasks are becoming more familiar with each passing
day. Everyone appears to be familiar with the workings of the compressor, the

So, the start of week two and most of the
base members have settled in. All of the routines that were learnt in the
previous week have now become just that, routines. However life can never be
routine at Cap Ternay.
During one of his first coral spot dives, Master
Tom came across a new species of coral. This in of itself would be an amazing
feat, however in a twist of fate, it seems that Tom’s GVI Seychelleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08955559436383675126noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5186468692093603124.post-85046183531660239802014-01-19T11:28:00.003+04:002014-01-19T11:28:39.031+04:0019/1/2014: Cap T - Week 1: Life on Base

Our days since

It's been another busy week at Cap Ternay, and not just because of all the diving! This means they sit down with me and learn how to do the schedule for a day, making sure the boat gets out when the tides allow, assigning divers to do surveys, making GVI Seychelleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08955559436383675126noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5186468692093603124.post-88820523278085335132013-12-09T08:30:00.000+04:002013-12-09T08:32:36.772+04:0006/12/13 Island Adventures

Why did I join GVI? That is a good question. I
did my apprenticeship back home in Germany and I wanted to see a bit of the rest
of the world. I found GVI and read about diving, which I have never done
before, and the conservation work. I told myself to do it, and after 4 weeks
here, I can say it was the right decision!
When I arrived in Seychelles, I felt a bit

So us ‘newbies’ have been here for almost 2 weeks now and I
cannot describe how quickly it has gone! We’ve seen so many turtles, tortoises
(very frisky ones I might add), crabs and of course the dreaded mosquitoes.
However after pretty much all of us have been bitten (minus the
extremely lucky Sarah and Nathalie) I have done some extensive tests about what
sprays and creams work the best. This is the first post in a new series, Weekly Update from
Cap Ternay. It won’t be nearly as humorous as the Saturday Night Live Weekend

here at Cap Ternay, information about upcoming events and other exciting news,
all written by the staff here on base.

Hola everyone!
These past few days on the island have
been eventful to say the least. With turtles now causing regular bursts on
excitement on our wurtles and snurtles (walks and snorkels looking for turtles
to all those not island oriented) its somewhat surprising that we have any
energy left at the end of the days. However, in true Seychelles style, we spent
most of our Friday GVI Seychelleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08955559436383675126noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5186468692093603124.post-10350132783253176752013-11-06T14:07:00.000+04:002013-11-06T14:07:19.776+04:0006/11/13 Not Enough Hours
Hi All,
It’s only our second week on Curieuse Island and my only
problem is that there aren’t enough hours in the day to see and do everything.
I started my week off with base duty working with Amanda and
we had a ball trying to create new meals for everyone. I think everyone really
enjoyed our rather different Mexican style dinner for a change.
The next few days I spent out in the GVI Seychelleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08955559436383675126noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5186468692093603124.post-20072365464670899212013-11-06T07:44:00.002+04:002013-12-01T10:55:45.640+04:0005/11/13 Halfway Through
Sunset over Beau Vallon Beach, Mahe
Well here we are, six weeks into the GVI experience at Cap Ternay (halfway through my 12 weeks as a volunteer on the marine expedition). The
training is almost over, although it was great fun to learn about the things we
see when we’re underwater, now we know what the fish are called. We can relate
it in our logs. Rather than saying “I saw a big fish” GVI Seychelleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08955559436383675126noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5186468692093603124.post-15523377831647857252013-10-28T13:13:00.003+04:002013-10-28T13:13:50.943+04:0028/10/2013Turtles, tortoises and some more turtles!
Hi All,
So far my time on Curieuse has been INCREDIBLE!
I have nearly been here for
a week and I cannot believe what we have managed to squeeze into it. The first
few days were spent settling into our new surroundings, getting to know who we
will be living and working with, as well learning about the different treks and
surveys we will be taking part in.
So having just about gotten

proved to be a big hit for the GVI Curieuse base, with success in both the
