06/11/13 Not Enough Hours
Hi All,
It’s only our second week on Curieuse Island and my only
problem is that there aren’t enough hours in the day to see and do everything.
I started my week off with base duty working with Amanda and
we had a ball trying to create new meals for everyone. I think everyone really
enjoyed our rather different Mexican style dinner for a change.
The next few days I spent out in the field going on turtle
patrols, tortoise surveys, bird survey and hunting around in the bush for new
Coco De Mer trees (one of my favourite pass times here). We got to see yet
another turtle nesting and I must say it gets even more interesting the second
time round. We also got rather attached to the tortoises that we were surveying,
for their feeding habits. It’s so interesting to see their different
personalities and how far they move every hour. Let me tell you some of them
are quiet lazy. I have already made a friend in tortoise number 74. I swear he
has the longest neck ever and as soon as you scratch him in the right place he
will be your friend forever.
We had such an amazing experience on our bird survey,
watching a grey heron fishing with her young. They put on a show for about 10
minutes while we all watched and quietly cheered her on to victory.
Tomorrow we have a Halloween party planned for our Friday
night barbeque; the girls on social have even planned some games to keep us
entertained. Then on Saturday most of the group are going to head to La Digue
to check out beaches and compare it to our little island paradise.
As our time ticks on here I wish that I was staying longer
so I could continue traipsing through the bush searching for the Coco De Mers
and watching turtles nesting on the secluded beaches. We really have the best
of both worlds here on Curieuse. I just wish I had a few more hours in the day
so I could see it all.
Cheers for now.
Sarah
