01/10/13 My First Impressions

Its been an amazing first few days here at Cap Ternay!  I arrived early afternoon on Sat not knowing anyone or what to expect.  I was both excited and nervous for the new adventure ahead of me.  After settling into the accommodations that were much better than expected, we were able to get to know the staff and other volunteers better.  The staff quickly made you feel at ease and it was great to talk with all the other volunteers that I will be sharing this experience with.  We have such a diverse group of individuals and I can already tell that we will all have a great time together.

The first few days have been busy, but so much fun!  We went on our first dive Sunday into the bay where the underwater life was breath taking.  We have been diving every day since then and I feel so fortunate that I get to call this spectacular place my home for the next three months while working on my dive master.  I was in the first group this week who got to go snorkeling with the Presidents Village School children.  It was great to be able to play and have one on one time with the kids who do not often get that.  They were such beautiful and happy kids and Im looking forward to the next trip I am able to go!

This upcoming weekend there is a big raggata in Beau Vallon that most of the volunteers are looking forward to.  I am excited to see such a big festival and to  become immersed into the creole culture of the Seychelles.  The staff has given us a three day weekend so that we may take full advantage of this opportunity.  Another thing that I am looking forward to is a race around the beaches of Mahe.  We will be put into groups competing against one another in order to raise money for the Presidents Village School.  It is such a great cause and I am hoping that we are able to surpass our goal of money to raise.

Looking forward to what the next week has in store for us!
