12/10/11 Time to Toga at Cap Ternay

We’ve been powering through coral spots & with only one workshop left I know we’re all excited to start our surveys. Since the emphasis of our phase is coral recruits, the staff have been going out of their way to point out the teeniest, tiniest baby corals. We all cracked up when Joe came out with a couple of urchin spikes after pointing out a 3 cm long podabacia under a shelf ( I still think he deserved it a bit)!

Luckily, we’ve all passed our EFR training, especially with all the “accidents” happening around camp. In fact, the other day when we were waiting for our EFR meeting there was an “explosion” in the compressor room. It took us a little while to respond to Tegan’s screams but I’m happy to say 3 of the 4 victims survived. Savi, unfortunately, was dead on arrival, but we tried our best.

After all that hard work Phase 30 was definitely ready to party. We started off right with a Friday Night Toga Party BBQ followed by a Saturday night trip to La Faya and Tequila Boom. The Seybrews & Black Tree were flowing & everyone left that night with a lot of laughs & some embarrassing pictures. We’ve got to remember to use our new dive pickup lines next time though! “Am I running out of air or did you just take my breath away?”

It’s impossible to tell that we’ve only known each other for a couple weeks. Living, working, diving, studying, playing, partying, cooking, and cleaning together has been a blast so far and I have a feeling it’s only going to be getting better. I can’t wait to see what the next couple of weeks will bring!

I'm glad you're having such a great time. I hope it only gets better as the weeks go on. Be safe. You have a lot of friends back in WA that can't wait to see you I'm sure. Including some you may haven't seen in a while.

Best Wishes-

A 253 friend :)
